What Is Trump’s China Policy?

Ravi Agrawal

The early weeks of President Donald Trump’s second stint in the White House suggest a sharp turn in how the United States might deal with allies in Europe or issues such as trade or the climate crisis. But how, exactly, are Trump’s policies on China different from those of his predecessor? And how does Beijing view a change in U.S. leadership?

For answers, I spoke with Rush Doshi, a China scholar and former deputy senior director for China and Taiwan on President Joe Biden’s National Security Council. Doshi is the author of The Long Game: China’s Grand Strategy to Displace American Order and is currently director of the China Strategy Initiative at the Council on Foreign Relations.
