If you are a guy like me who is too shy to record his audio, let alone show his face in the camera, this one is for you.
Starting a YouTube channel has become one of the coolest side-hustles in recent years. Provided you manage to get 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours, you can monetize your channel and start earning money right there.
But few people like me don’t prefer to show our faces in front of the camera because we are too shy. But then what can be the solution for us? How can we start a YouTube channel without showing our faces?
It’s simple. Start a YouTube channel that doesn’t need your face.
Currently, on YouTube, there are thousands of channels with millions of subscribers who haven’t shown their faces once. They are making $10,000 a month without appearing in front of the camera.
Gosh! How are they doing that?
You can do it too.
Here’s the thing, there can be two types of faceless YouTube channels — With your voice or without your voice.
Simply put, if you are comfortable with recording your voice, you can go for the former. If you are not, like me, you can go with the latter.
Let’s discuss them one by one.
Faceless YouTube Channel (with your voice)
I can’t count how many YouTube channels I have seen which doesn’t have a face. I mean, there are some popular ones like Bright Side, Watch Mojo, and What If.
These channels don’t have a face. They totally rely on their voice. And surprisingly, people are subscribing because they are drawn towards their voice.
So if you have any idea to open a faceless YouTube channel with your voice, you can go with it. You can create a channel explaining movies, tv shows, web series. You can even open a tech channel based on unboxing, reviews. There are so many niche ideas you can create your channel on.
If you are consistent and regular, you can definitely earn a good number of subscribers and make money on YouTube.
Faceless YouTube Channel (without your voice)
There aren’t too many popular channels in this category. Maybe there aren’t any. I haven’t seen anyone like that.
But there are few channels, I’ve seen, with over 10K subscribers and every video having 1,000+ views (a few over 100K). These channels are producing comparative videos like comparing the two cities or something. Using stock videos of cities and merging them with copyright-free music.
These kinds of channels might be hard to grow and may take much longer to meet the eligibility criteria. But you can try them. Who knows luck might help you to get the views.
But, one trick you can use to fill the voice gap is using text-to-speech. Write a script and insert it into text-to-speech software. Boom, you now have a human voice you can use in your video.
I am actually trying this kind of channel and have only uploaded three videos. You can check it out here. I’m not using text-to-speech but only copyright-free music.
The Takeaway
That said, I would say this can be a good side-hustle if you are not too comfortable with showing your face in front of the camera. Recording your own voice will be a plus point if you are comfortable with that. It can make you a good amount of money if invest your time and sweat on it. Plus, they don’t need huge investments like cameras and lights.
