First Inside Look At Russia’s New Spetsnaz University In Kadyrov’s Chechnya

GROZNY — A 45 minute drive outside of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, Russia is building a special forces university in Ramzan Kadyrov’s Chechnya. Tsarizm was given a private, first look tour of the impressive site.

When completed in the near future, a sprawling campus of over 420 hectares will provide unprecedented training opportunities for elite soldiers of the Russian Federation’s Spetsnaz forces. The facility will have the capability to train 1,500 personal at the same time; many of these students will be from foreign nations allied with Russia.

The staff was most gracious and proud to show Tsarizm the training grounds with a complete, day-long tour, replete with weapons firing and specialized procedures.

The site also boasts of a 500 bed luxurious hotel, for garrisoning the training of foreign dignitaries and paramilitary groups. It is obvious the effort seeks to generate revenue as well as provide a secure location for classified military rehearsals.

Complete with a mock city for urban operations, an airfield for aviation training, a myriad of interactive target ranges, and underwater and naval facilities, the ‘university’ is a one stop shop for anyone looking to train with some of the best in the world.

One of the most interesting venues on the grounds is the production facility for the Chaborz (Bear-Wolf) special operations buggy vehicles. Machine tools and paint booths whirl away as the specialized armed machines come to life.

The university will train Spetsnaz from all over the Russian Federation and is a feather in Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov’s cap, tying in well with the warrior tradition of his people.

The soldiers and instructors we met were very serious and professional. The money the Kremlin in pouring into modernizing the Russian military is paying off in spades; this facility is an unmistakable example of that effort.
