I was in China April 20-28, throughout which I experienced and carefully observed China first hand. Here is a summary: China is doing very well, as usual, and the trade war between the U.S. and China has zero effect on average Chinese citizens, so far. Specifically, let me highlight three big events that happened while I was there:
1. Another loyalty test
Regulations governing who gets promotion will also require candidates to be given a clean bill of health by the anti-corruption watchdog.
Rules show customary hallmarks of Xi Jinping's efforts to stamp his imprint on party, but one observer warns they could harm morale.

Overall, this whole thing shows how hard governance is and how hard the CPC (Communist Party of China) is trying. Will it succeed? Time will tell! For more, read: Governance in China: Past, Present, and Future.
2. Navy parade
Below is an excerpt from China parades new warship as navy celebrates 70th anniversary.
China is modernizing its navy to project more of its military power around the world. Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country will "unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development."
Eighteen warships from India, Japan, Vietnam, Australia and nine other countries also took part in the parade.
The United States sent a low-level delegation to Qingdao but did not send any ships to take part in the parade.
The image below shows China's first aircraft carrier.
3. Bell and Road Forum
This was by far the biggest event of the three. Below is an excerpt from China's BRF Meet Ends, Affirms Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity.
The forum in which 37 heads of the state and governments took part concluded with an announcement by Chinese President Xi Jinping that cooperation agreements worth USD 64 billion were signed at a CEO conference during the Belt and Road Forum (BRF) meeting.
The image below shows the heads of states attended the meeting.
4. Discussion
Overall, China is moving in the right direction and doing very well, despite all sorts of challenges, from governance at home to the trade war with the US.
Why has China been doing so well over the past four decades?
The government over there works!
In contrast, our government does not work (anymore)! For example, we are even losing the trade wars against the world (Trump's Plan to Reduce Trade Deficit Falters as it Hits an All-Time High Instead)!
Reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (American Democracy - Why is it failing & how to fix it?), or become a fiddle, second to China!
